Out of Synch
Out of Synch is a project in which I take woven design elements that are usually synchronised and look at what happens if I disrupt the design, so that these elements go “out of synch.”
The project was previously exhibited at:
Direct Art Action, Sutton Coldfield (June - July 2019)
The Handweavers Studio & Gallery, London (Aug - Sept 2019)
Arcadia Gallery, Coventry (Dec 2019)
Farfield Mill, Sedbergh (Dec 2020 - May 2021)

In the first half of the project I have woven eight linen hangings that apply my Out of Synch approach to a variety of weaving styles. In the second half, I have applied similar ideas to double cloth structures woven in silk: two presented as hangings and six framed works.
More Information
You can see the full set of all 16 textiles on the Out of Synch Collection page.
All the textiles have been handwoven using a 16-shaft Louët Megado floor loom with a mechanical dobby. Textiles 1-8 are single cloths woven in 16/2nel linen and 9-16 are double cloths woven in 60/2nm silk.
For more information about the design ideas behind the project and how they have been applied see the Design Notes page.
